Providing A 'Safe Space' Through Sound

In this current world environment, it is hard to know how to carve out space for oneself that feels safe, both in the physical and psychological sense. Social media offers up a slew of fear-mongering scenarios that--ideally--won't come to pass, and even conversations with friends can quickly spiral into doomsday predictions that frankly feel a bit spawned from apocalyptic headlines.
It occurs to me, as I seek out ways to process information with calm and reason, and ensure that my nervous system stays relaxed, that no matter what happens in the world, my own particular universe requires serious maintenance.
I began to study mindfulness and meditation many years back at a time when I was raising young children and working with young children and understood the need to develop a sensible stable perspective with which to guide often-fearful adolescents. That study somehow led me to develop collaborative wordless music circles and, from there, meditative sound baths.
Even though I'm a writer, maybe because I am, I find that words can be difficult. Tuning in to sound and letting the vibration of instruments and the voice seep into the stress-induced tension in our bodies can be so incredibly relaxing in a way that trying to sort through things verbally is sometimes not.
This is all to say, 'how 'bout joining me for a sound bath?!'
In the coming weeks, in the interest of providing a safe space for your mind and body, I have scheduled sound baths in Brooklyn and in my new studio upstate!!
