The silver-painted holly berries still sit in the vase sans the white hydrangeas, long dead, that accompanied them over the holidays. Silver reindeer ornaments dangle from them, over the glittery 2024 glasses. The festivities are over, a new year begun, and it occurs to me as I look upon this table scene that I am trying hard to keep up the sparkle.
Must. Continue. To. Sparkle. Every new year, after the party hats and silver platform boots are put away, and visitors have packed up and gone home, it is a chance to begin anew, to think of the month of January as a clean slate, a fresh start. It feels quiet, especially under the fresh snow we got upstate. It is easy enough to fall into a lull, and yet there is often a forceful undercurrent, some undulating rhythm that has been pushing up from way back when November became December, eagerly moving toward the end of one thing and into the next.
To sparkle is to shine bright, to be vivacious and witty, a glittering light. And how to get there, to that sparkly place? It's like the old joke about how one gets to Carnegie Hall: practice, practice, practice. We have to seek to find.
As Roald Dahl says, "Only those who believe in magic will find it." To find sparkle is the same. We have to believe that there is a brightness that lies, sometimes dormant, inside of us. And it is up to us to seek and find it, to root it out.
I believe that taking time out to lie still and listen, to allow sound and vibration to wash over you, to stay present in that time, focusing deeply, can bring you to a shiny vibrant place. It can help reset your nervous system to calm, allow you to relax and tune in to all that you might want this year, to all that you might try to gain a SPARKLE energy!
With the dawning of a new year often comes a commitment to try new things to help us toward becoming our best self. To that end, my sound baths have been super crowded!! Looking to keep up the momentum, here are some upcoming events to sign up for to continue to sparkle throughout this month, and the coming year! Commit!! I have discovered lately that it takes up less time and energy just to do the things I say I want to do, than to NOT do them and constantly berate myself...So, what are you waiting for? SIGN UP!!
